The super savvy wife!

PROVERBS 31:10 -12 KJV

10."Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."

Who CAN find a virtuous woman? They certainly are few and far between as this statement so clearly points out. Its no mystery why the rarity either, just look at these characteristics.

  • Trustworthy

  • willing and able

  • selfless

  • compassionate to the poor

  • wise

  • busy

  • efficient

  • loving

  • supper save shopper!

I would really like to focus on the last characteristic for this particular posting. There is so much to be said on this subject but I'll only give you a very simple, humble, yet practical application of the characteristic of being a super savvy wife. ( For those yet to be married...this still applies...I dont want to leave you out! I learned SO much in my single years that I'm now applying to my mariage and job as house wife.:-)

PROVERBS 31:13-16 NASB

13. She looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight. 14. She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar. 15. She rises also while it is still night and gives food to her household and portions to her maidens. 16. She considers a field and buys it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard.

Right away, we see that this woman is a deal searcher. Only a foolish or a lazy wife buys at retail prices without doing her homework first to see if she cant find a better deal! God wants us to be smart with the money that He has entrusted us with.

simple applications:

  • Check those supermarket fliers first beforehand and compare with the competing stores.

  • Ask around or look on line to see if there are any "discount grocery stores" around.( Ive done this and let me tell you it's worth the hour drive there! We save alot of money! Every time I leave that store i feel like Ive gotten away with highway robbery...it's a wonderful feeling:-)

  • Make more homemade food! (Avoiding those easy/fast meals you can save big time...and it's alot better for you. As we see from this passage, the virtuous woman is not afraid to get up early! She made sure her family had a good homemade breakfast before they started their day.

  • If in need of clothes for either you or the family check the Salvation Army/Goodwill stores first! Yes, you have to really hunt for good cothes in those stores but often times you can get brand new clothes for only a few bucks! I have had WONDERFUL success with finding brand new/excellent condition, clothes with brands like Talbots, Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean, Sag Harbor, etc. and be sure to ask if they have certain days that are half off days etc.

  • Start gardening! If your family goes through a lot of potatoes, tomato's, etc. this is a smart idea. Be sure to plant more then enough so you can can or freeze the excess food for winter months.

  • Go berry/ fruit picking! This is great family fun and it also helps the grocery bill! Pick apples and make apple sauce...it's super easy! Pick blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc. and freeze them for pies, smoothies and such to enjoy in the winter months when fruit prices get ridiculous!

  • In need of a book? Check amazon or ebay before going to a regular book store. Erik just recently bought me two hard back books from amazon. The one he got for .17 cents and the other for .34 cents! Shipping was $ 3.99 per book...so the total cost including the tax was a little over $8.49 for two awesome books!!

These are just a few ideas to get you started, but I would like to encourage you to ask your friends what they do to save money. God wants you to respect your husbands work efforts to provide for you and the family and be a super savvy shopper! Your husband will trust in you when it comes to purchasing, and that is a great thing!

P.S. If any of you have any other ideas of how to be a savvy shopper, please give us any of your suggestions!
